The Krewe of Highland Parade is Funky, Unpredictable Fun

Held each year on the Sunday before Fat Tuesday (the 2014 parade rolls at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 2), Shreveport’s Krewe of Highland Parade is one of the largest neighborhood Mardi Gras parades in Louisiana. A funky, eclectic affair, the parade includes a wide range of floats, marching societies, dance troops and more in a miles-long procession that winds its way through the historic Highland neighborhood.

“The Krewe of Highland Parade is like a three-mile-long block party,” said Robert Trudeau, Mardi Gras historian and author of How to Mardi Gras. “The entire neighborhood comes together in a spirit of celebration.”

Last year, the Shreveport-Bossier Convention and Tourist Bureau produced a fun, 3-minute short film about the what makes the Krewe of Highland special. Watch it on Youtube here. For up-to-date reports on all of the Carnival season fun happening in Shreveport-Bossier, including previews of every parade, check out our blog at www.20x49.com.
