The living dead flock to downtown Shreveport
There's something interesting that happens in Shreveport-Bossier when the weather starts to change. Cooler temperatures and crisp autumn nights
seem to inspire zombie-like behavior in some and for a good cause. If you're not familiar with the Shreveport Zombie Walk, it's a canned good and
food drive benefiting the
Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana. New this year, the Shreveport Zombie Walk will be held
in downtown Shreveport, on
World Zombie Day, Saturday, October 8, from 4 p.m.-6 p.m. starting at the 600 block on
Texas Street near the Caddo Courthouse. The event has previously been held at Mall St. Vincent, in Shreveport where upwards of 200 zombies convened
to moan, stagger, stare lifelessly into the distance, and donate food to a good cause in 2010. Last year, the event collected more than 800 pounds
of food.
Beer festival places local microbrews in limelight

Beer is a popular subject in Louisiana. It's a staple at gatherings and get-togethers, sporting events, and festivals. One of
Shreveport-Bossier's newest festival offerings is
Brew, a premier beer tasting event set to take place
3:30 p.m.-7 p.m., October 15 at Festival Plaza in downtown Shreveport. The third annual Brew event will feature live music, food from
area restaurants, and sample-size tastings of premium domestic, foreign, and microbrew beers. Perhaps one of the most unique facets of
this festival is the local beer brewing groups like the Malt Munching Mash Monsters. These homebrew organizations are becoming more
numerous and sought after thanks to their one-of-a-kind selections and this highly anticipated event. Brew is also a fundraiser for
the
Red River Revel Arts Festival and
Mudbug Madness Festival. The Revel
is one of the South's largest arts and culture festivals that will take place October 1-8. This year's entertainment includes Louisiana
natives Better Than Ezra, country-rock bad boy Colt Ford and up-and-coming blues rock band Whiskey Myers.
