New music museum celebrates Shreveport-Bossier City's rich musical heritage
The
Stage of Stars Music Museum,
an exhibit showcasing the area's musical heritage and the history of
Shreveport's Municipal Auditorium, opened on Saturday, June 5. The
date also marked the start of guided tours of the auditorium, which
is located at 705 Elvis Presley Avenue. The exhibit, sponsored by
the nonprofit Friends of the Municipal Auditorium, features hundreds
of photographs and memorabilia, which have been loaned or donated by
numerous individuals.
Many of the performers who appeared on the Municipal stage over
the past 75 years are featured in the museum. They include stars from
the auditorium's most fabled era, when it was home to the widely
broadcast Louisiana Hayride - Elvis Presley, Hank Williams Sr.,
Charley Pride, Kitty Wells, Johnny Horton, Nat Stuckey and others.
But they also include greats from before and after that era who
appeared at the auditorium - from Lionel Barrymore, Eleanor Roosevelt
and Sergei Rachmaninoff, to Dolly Parton, Van Cliburn, Nat King Cole
and Bob Dylan.
Guided tours of the auditorium will highlight not only the
building's performing history, but also its prized Art Deco
architecture and fixtures. A donation of $2 per person is suggested,
but not required. Tours may also be scheduled by appointment by
calling Teresa Micheels at 318-632-2112.
Also in the works is a bronze sculpture of Elvis Presley, created
by Eric Kaposta, an artist with Shreveport roots.

New bistro offers Classic American menu concept
Cambria Bistro & Bakery
is one of the newest additions to the Shreveport-Bossier City restaurant
scene. Well, kind of. The management of the new restaurant has an
impressive history of providing fine dining at other
Shreveport-Bossier City area restaurants.
Its Classic American menu concept, a true melting pot, fully
integrates three distinct yet complimentary food components - a
gourmet coffee bar / bakery / wine bar, a fresh rapid service cafe
and an evening dinner bistro. Cambria will also offer a full-service
bar with light entertainment and space for private parties and
business meetings. The concept is unique to the area.
Not only will patrons be able to dine on quality comfort food
with exemplary service, but they will do so in a sophisticated
sensual, yet casually comfortable atmosphere.
Cambria will offer a 50-inch high-definition plasma TV in the bar
and high-speed wireless Internet access throughout the facility.
