Chef Hardette Harris cooks up "soul in a bowl" with North Louisiana's own flavors and cooking styles. The menu features fried catfish, fried chicken, barbecue, greens, cabbage, peas, cornbread and more, served, of course, with a big glass of sweet tea.
In 2015, Harris created the Official Meal of North Louisiana, has taught classes, hosted tours, collaborated with local farmers, and recently opened the Us Up North Kitchen, open for lunch on Wednesday, Thursdays and Fridays. The emphasis is on simplicity and a reflection on how most of us Up North grew up having foods cooked at home, with fresh ingredients, flavor, and foods found right in our backyard.
The restaurant is located in the Allendale neighborhood of Shreveport, which has a rich history of African American entrepreneurship, community activism, and families.
