Railroad Historical Society
The Red River Valley Railroad Historical Society, Inc. was founded in Shreveport, Louisiana in 1981 by a small but dedicated group of railroad enthusiasts. The goals of the society are to establish a railroad museum containing railroad artifacts, memorabilia, documents and photographs, and to enjoy railroad related activities such as train rides, photography and train operations. Currently, the society is involved in preserving its rolling stock and has displays at the McNeill Street Pumping Station in downtown Shreveport of many railroad artifacts. The society has collected a large inventory of railroad material and owns several items of rolling stock including steam locomotive 1140, a diesel switch engine, caboose, coach, baggage car, dining car and motor car. Meetings are held at 7 pm on the third Friday of every month at the Shreveport Water Works Museum and Railroad Museum – 142 N. Common St , Shreveport, LA. Call (318) 458-3123 for information.
