Shreveport-Bossier: Louisiana’s Other Side

Shreveport-Bossier: Louisiana's Other Side is situated on the Red River in northwest Louisiana. The destination offers Vegas-style gaming, year-round festivals, great local dining experiences, live music and family attractions.

You’ll enjoy a unique combination of two great American heritages: a little Cajun, and since we’re less than 15 minutes from the Texas border, it’s a little Lone Star, too. Shreveport-Bossier boasts elegant Southern charm and a relaxed attitude that suggests you kick your boots off and stay a while.

Mark your calendars for some of these exciting celebrations of everything from music to sunflowers.

Set sail with the Spirit of the Red River Cruise for a unique, scenic view of the area’s historic Red River and Cross Bayou, led by Capt. Sandy Jackson, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday through Saturday, and noon to 5 p.m. In addition to boat rides, Spirit of the Red River Cruise also offers single-passenger kayak rentals.

Take advantage of summer's bounty and visit one of the local farmers' markets. The Shreveport Farmers' Market is in Festival Plaza every Tuesday, 3-6 p.m., and every Saturday, 7 a.m. to noon. The Benton Farmers' Market makes a nice Sunday afternoon outing, and the South Highlands Summer Market is on Fridays, 5-9 p.m.

For something a little more daring, try the zipline over the alligator pond at Gators and Friends. If that's a bit too exotic for you, cruise the Boom or Bust Byway. Just stop by the Shreveport-Bossier Convention and Tourist Bureau’s downtown office to pick up a GPS Ranger in English, Spanish or French, or download the app on your smartphone.

Make a stop at The Outlets at Louisiana Boardwalk and be among the first to try your luck at Shreveport-Bossier’s newest gaming destination, Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville Resort Casino. The highly-anticipated casino opened in summer 2013. Horseshoe Casino and Hotel recently debuted the new $3.5 million tropical Dare Dayclub | Ultra Pool with its trendy cocktail menu and elegant European bottle service offerings.

Blast off your Fourth of July celebration with an exciting day on the riverfront at the KTBS-3 Independence Day Festival held at Shreveport’s Riverview Park featuring live music, fireworks and fun.

You don’t want to miss out on any of the action during your visit to Shreveport-Bossier!
