National spotlight on Shreveport-Bossier:
Chris Lane wins the 2012 Bassmaster Classic and Moonbot Studios brings home an Oscar!
There’s a lot of celebrating going on in Shreveport-Bossier lately. Following a hectic schedule of Mardi Gras balls and parades, bass fishing fans joined in the celebration as Alabama’s Chris Lane captured the top prize in the 2012 Bassmaster Classic on the Red River. And you could almost hear the shouts across town as William Joyce and Brandon Oldenburg of Shreveport’s Moonbot Studios were awarded the Oscar for animated short for The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore.
There is more celebration to come as we look forward to a full schedule of spring festivals, including:
Louisiana Redbud Festival, the third weekend of March, with a parade, music, great food and more.
Cork: A Red River Revel Wine Event, late March/early April, with more than 80 fine wines to be poured, live music, and delicious samplings from the area's finest eateries.
Holiday in Dixie, every April, is a 10-day festival celebrating spring and the Louisiana Purchase.
Aseana Spring Festival, every April, celebrates Korean culture with the theme: Korean Arirang Spring Festival.
Barksdale Defenders Of Liberty Air Show 2012, every April, provides thrilling aerial displays by the US Air Force Thunderbirds.
Artbreak, Late April/early May, is the largest annual student arts festival in the South.
Cinco de Mayo, the weekend closest to May 5, with the Annual Chihuahua Challenge, live entertainment, Mariachis, a jalapeno-eating contest, family activities, and plenty of great food.
Blue Goose Music Festival, May 18-20, is a three-day event that features some of the area's hottest talent.
